# Any MCP client

> Connect any client that speaks MCP: n8n, VS Code, your own agent.

| | |
| - | - |
| URL | `https://mcp.opennous.cloud/mcp` |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Auth | OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, or a Bearer API key |

**Clients that sign in** find everything from the URL. They register themselves, open the OpenNous sign-in and get a token.

**Clients that take a header** send a key from **Settings → API keys**:

```
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
```

A client that can only take a URL can use `https://mcp.opennous.cloud/mcp?key=YOUR_API_KEY`. The key can end up in logs, so prefer the header.

## Local (stdio)

```json theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light-default","dark":"vesper"}}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "opennous": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@opennous/mcp"] }
  }
}
```

The server reads the key from `NOUS_API_KEY`, or from `~/.nous/config.json`, which `npx @opennous/cli login` writes.

| Variable | Default | Purpose |
| - | - | - |
| `NOUS_API_KEY` | none | Workspace API key. Overrides the config file. |
| `NOUS_CONFIG_DIR` | `~/.nous` | Where to look for `config.json`. |
| `NOUS_API_URL` | `https://api.opennous.cloud` | API base URL. Set it for a self-hosted instance. |
